Finding Inspiration in Nature: Exploring Cathy Dement's Artistic Journey

As a child, I remember sketching pictures of horses with a sense of wonder and fascination. It was during those moments, with my father's encouraging words echoing in my ears, that I realized drawing was more than just a pastime—it was a passion I wanted to pursue. Even then, I understood the power of art to capture the beauty of the world around us.

As I progressed through my last years of high school and into college, I continued to nurture my love for art, alongside my studies in chemistry and physics. Despite ultimately choosing a career path in pharmacy, my creative spirit never waned. Over the years, I've explored various mediums and techniques, but I always find myself drawn back to the simplicity and versatility of paper as my preferred canvas.

For many years, my artistic journey was guided by mediums like pen and ink, charcoal, and ebony pencil. However, in recent years, I've found new inspiration in watercolors, colored pencils, and pastels. Each medium offers its own unique challenges and opportunities for expression, allowing me to continually evolve as an artist.

One aspect of my artistic journey that sets me apart is my red-green color deficiency. While I may not perceive colors in the same way as others, I've learned to embrace this challenge as part of my creative process. What I lack in traditional color perception, I make up for in perseverance and a relentless drive to create.

Nature has always been my greatest muse. There's something truly magical about the way sunlight dances across a landscape, casting intricate shadows and highlighting the textures of the world around us. I find myself particularly drawn to the textures found in nature, from the softness of fur to the delicate intricacies of feathers.

Ultimately, art is my medicine for the soul. It's a source of solace and tranquility, allowing me to quiet my mind and express myself in ways words cannot. With each brushstroke or pencil mark, I challenge myself to capture the essence of the natural world and share it with others.

Welcome to this, my very first blog! In this blog, I hope to explore the beauty of nature and its influence on my artistic journey. Join me as we delve into the wonders of the world around us and discover the endless possibilities for creativity that lie within.
